Sir Michael Anthony Eardley Dummett FBA (/ ˈ d ʌ m ɪ t /; 27 June 1925 – 27 December 2011) was an English academic described as "among the most significant British philosophers of the last century and a leading campaigner for racial tolerance and equality."

He spent his entire philosophical career at Oxford University, first as a Fellow at All Souls College and then at New College, as Wykeham Professor of Logic, from 1979 until his retirement in 1992.
Born in 1925, Professor Sir Michael Dummett has, since the middle 1950s, exerted a dominant influence on British philosophy and, partly through important dialogues with the likes of Quine, Goodman, Putnam and Davidson, his sway has left its considerable mark on American philosophy too.
