Aug 22, 2016 · The GHS system, part of OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), consists of nine symbols, or pictograms, providing recognition of the hazards associated with certain substances. Use of eight of the nine are mandatory in the U.S., the exception being the environmental pictogram (see below).
Hazard symbols or warning symbols are recognisable symbols designed to warn about hazardous or dangerous materials, locations, or objects, including electromagnetic fields, electric currents; harsh, toxic or unstable chemicals (acids, poisons, explosives); and radioactivity.

Aug 17, 2022 · Harmful GHS Symbol. The GHS pictogram with an exclamation mark is used on substances that are harmful or irritating. The health effects are acute (set in quickly), but they're less severe than something marked with the toxic symbol. Chemical classes include: Skin, eye, or respiratory tract irritants.
Guiding principles: Information should be conveyed in more than one way. Comprehensibility should take account of existing information (literature, studies and data) Phrases indicating degree of hazard should be consistent across different hazard types. Words and phrases should retain comprehensibility when translated into other languages.
