Irwin Yablans (born July 25, 1934) is an American independent film producer and distributor known for his work in the horror film industry. His brother, Frank Yablans, was also a producer.

I believe the anthology concept was the idea of the producer Irwin Yablans, who came up with the idea for the first movie. As far as I know Carpenter had no vision for the anthology successors and really wasn’t terribly concerned about the direction of the franchise in general.
