Five Card Stud is an album by the American musician Buckwheat Zydeco, released in 1994. It peaked at No. 14 on Billboard ' s World Albums chart. Zydeco supported the album with a North American tour. Five Card Stud was released around the same time as Zydeco's children's album, Choo Choo Boogaloo.
Buckwheat subsequently shared stages and/or recording with Keith Richards, Robert Plant, Willie Nelson, Mavis Staples, David Hidalgo, Dwight Yoakam, Paul Simon, Ry Cooder, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies and many others, including indie music band Yo La Tengo on the soundtrack of the Bob Dylan bio-pic, I'm Not There.

Mavis Staples (born July 10, 1939) is an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer and civil rights activist. She rose to fame as a member of her family's band The Staple Singers , of which she is the last surviving member.
Buckwheat was signed by Alligator and made his first album for that label in early 2009, Lay Your Burden Down, produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), who had produced Five Card Stud, widely regarded as one of Buckwheat's best.
