Blood Ceremony work further to establish a unique identity for themselves on The Eldritch Dark. Whilst still showing a doom metal influence, the overt borrowing from Black Sabbath is dialled back considerably here in favour of more varied borrowings from classic-era proto-prog, early metal and heavy psych bands.

The Eldritch Dark is the album where the full scope of Blood Ceremony's eclecticism finally comes in to focus. Not only is it the group's most satisfying record from a heavy prog perspective, it perfects the psych/doom balance characterized the band's first two LPs.
