After his death in 2015, Nimoy was replaced for the role as Xehanort by Rutger Hauer, who died and was succeeded by Nimoy's Star Trek co-star Christopher Lloyd. Nimoy voiced Sentinel Prime in the 2011 film Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

During and following Star Trek, Nimoy also released five albums of musical vocal recordings on Dot Records. On his first album, Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space , and half of his second album Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy , science fiction-themed songs are featured where Nimoy sings as Spock.
His performance won him three Emmy nominations and launched his career as a writer and director, notably of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), the story of a humpback whale rescue that proved the most successful of the Star Trek movies.
