Marco Ricci (6 June 1676 – 21 January 1730) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Early years. He was born at Belluno and received his first instruction in art from his uncle, Sebastiano Ricci, likely in Milan in 1694–6. [1] . He left for Venice with his uncle in 1696, but had to flee the city. [1] .
Marco Ricci’s most original works are his landscape paintings whose themes include Mediterranean ports, pastoral scenes, woods with travellers, cultivated fields and winter views. The realism and simplicity of some of these compositions indicate a profound knowledge of Dutch and Flemish painting.

After murdering a gondolier in a brawl, Marco fled to Dalmatia, where he spent four years apprenticed to a landscape painter. By 1705 he was in Milan working with Alessandro Magnasco, absorbing his free handling of paint.
Description. Marco Ricci produced a large number of paintings of landscape subjects executed in the unusual technique of gouache, or possibly tempera, on leather, perhaps kidskin (the paint was made by binding pigments with egg yolk or gum arabic respectively).
