Robert Lord (18 July 1945 – 7 January 1992) was the first New Zealand professional playwright. He was one of the first New Zealand playwrights to have plays produced abroad since Merton Hodge in the 1930s (following Bruce Mason and James K. Baxter).

Robert Lord 1945 - 1992. Robert was born in Rotorua and studied for an Arts Degree at Victoria University. In 1969 was awarded the Katherine Mansfield Young Writers Award. His first full length play It Isn't Cricket premiered at Downstage Theatre in 1971.
Robert Lord was a Harvard graduate and a prolific screenwriter who won an Oscar for One Way Passage (1932) and worked with Humphrey Bogart. He also produced films for Santana Productions, such as In a Lonely Place (1950), and died in 1976.
