Peter and the Wolf (Russian: Петя и волк, romanized: Pétya i volk, IPA: [ˈpʲetʲə i volk]) Op. 67 a "symphonic tale for children", is a musical composition written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936.
When a wolf invades his domestic zoo, Peter organises a hunt, rounds up the predator and takes him to the zoo.’. It took Prokofiev barely more than a fortnight to compose and orchestrate the music. Peter and the Wolf was given its first performance on the stage of the Central Children’s Theatre on May 2, 1936.
