"Original Me" featuring Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons (stylised in lowercase), is the third song on YUNGBLUD's third EP the underrated youth and the fifteenth song on the Japanese version of the second studio album weird!, as well as the EP's third and final single. The song was also added to a compilation EP on streaming services.
The song is about acceptance, about being the ‘original you’ despite the insecurities.
When Dan reached out to YUNGBLUD through a call about the collaboration, YUNGBLUD hung up on him, believing it as a prank call. However, Dan called him again and explained that it was actually him and he explained the idea for a song and sent YUNGBLUD a rough demo for the song. Harrison explained to Music Choice: "Dan Reynolds calls me… he says to me, ‘Love what you’re about, I have this idea for a song.’ And he sends me this rough demo. And I was like, ‘Woah, we gotta get in and do this.’ So we go and we meet up in Los Angeles—as all people like that do, like us do. We just got in the studio and had this idea to write this song about accepting the parts of yourself that you might not necessarily like." In an interview with ET Canada, YUNGBLUD revealed the song roughly took 5 hours to complete.
