Zale Dalen is a Canadian film and television director. He is known for the 1980 film The Hounds of Notre Dame, for which he garnered a Genie Award nomination for Best Director at the 2nd Genie Awards in 1981, the cult films Skip Tracer (1977) and Terminal City Ricochet (1990).

When Zale Dalen received virtually unanimous critical praise for his 1977 debut feature Skip Tracer, it should have cemented the film’s status as an essential component of cinematic Canadiana. Instead the film went on to become something of a secret handshake in cult film circles – revered but consigned to obscurity.
