David Anthony Pirner (born April 16, 1964) is an American songwriter, singer, and producer best known as the lead vocalist and frontman for the alternative rock band Soul Asylum. [3] Early life and work. Pirner was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin [4] and graduated from Minneapolis West High School in 1982. [5] .
In December 1989 the band returned to their Minneapolis roost, and recorded an album at Paisley Park Studios with Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner producing. The result is the twelve song record you're holding in your hand.

Jun 16, 2002 · After two decades as Soul Asylum’s frontman, Dave Pirner has recorded his first solo CD. He began working on "Faces and Names" after moving to New Orleans, and the recording finds Pirner singing personal songs against a musical backdrop influenced by the city’s signature sounds.
Pirner’s music was less identifiable with the grunge scene emerging at the time than his personal appearance was, with his blonde dreadlocks and disheveled manner. His music was less dark and angst-ridden than most grunge music that was prevalent at that time.
