2014. TLDR. Hastelloy N alloy samples were irradiated to different doses at room temperature using 300 keV Ar+ ions to investigate the microstructural evolution and led to the formation of face‐centered cubic nanocrystallites with preferred orientations. Expand.
May 19, 2017 · Molten-salt breeder reactors (MSBR’s) are being developed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for generating low-cost power while extending the nation’s resources of fissionable fuel. The fluid fuel in these reactors, consisting of UF 4 and ThF 4 dissolved in fluorides of beryllium and lithium, is circulated through a reactor ...

Rosenthal, M. W. [1]; Briggs, R. B. [1]; Kasten, P. R. [1] + Show Author Affiliations. The objective of the Molten-Salt Reactor Program is the development of nuclear reactors which use fluid fuels that are solutions of fissile and fertile materials in suitable carrier salts.
The design of the Molten-Salt Reactor Experiment was begun in 1960. A single-fluid reactor was selected that in its engineering features resembled a converter, but the fuel salt did not contain thorium and thus was similar to the fuel salt for a two-fluid breeder.
