A thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail sets YAMA's founder, Gen Shimizu, off on a journey that will eventually lead to the creation of YAMA. On his first night on trail he's woken by a bear under his hammock.
Gen Shimizu. Founder / Owner / Seamster. I love finding cool plants and bugs as I explore mountain trails. I find covering ground quickly to be meditative, but I also enjoy meandering and stopping to inspect every little creature, often interrupting my trail runs for particularly interesting finds.
For the first interview of the year I sought out a cottage manufacturer who is relatively unknown, wrongly as I believe, because Gen Shimizu, the man behind Alpinlite Gear offers some very innovative products with fair prices.
Gen Shimizu was born on 1 January 1907 in Tokyo, Japan. He was an actor, known for Throne of Blood (1957), Yojimbo (1961) and Seven Samurai (1954). He died on 5 October 1975.
