Pola Negri ( / ˈpoʊlə ˈnɛɡri /; born Barbara Apolonia Chałupiec [a] [apɔˈlɔɲa xaˈwupʲɛt͡s]; [b] 3 January 1897 [c] – 1 August 1987) was a Polish stage and film actress and singer. She achieved worldwide fame during the silent and golden eras of Hollywood and European film for her tragedienne and femme fatale roles.
Pola Negri was a Polish-born actress who starred in silent films in Europe and Hollywood. She was known for her exotic and earthy roles, her romances with Chaplin and Valentino, and her return to Europe under Nazi rule.

Pola Negri. Actress: Bella Donna. Pola Negri was born in Lipno, Poland, and moved to Warsaw as a child. Living in poverty with her mother, a teenage Pola auditioned and was accepted to the Imperial Ballet. Due to an illness that ended her dancing career, she soon switched to the Warsaw Imperial Academy of Dramatic Arts and became an actress.
