Matt Bell (born August 23, 1980) is an American writer. He is the author of Appleseed (2021), How They Were Found (2010) and Cataclysm Baby (2012). He received his BA from Oakland University and his MFA from Bowling Green State University.

Appleseed is a speculative epic by Matt Bell, a finalist for the Young Lions Fiction Award. It explores the impact of climate change on the past, present and future of North America, through the lens of apple orchards, genetic engineering, and mythology.

A native of Michigan, he teaches creative writing at Arizona State University. Matt Bell’s next novel, Appleseed, was published by Custom House in July 2021. His craft book Refuse to Be Done, a guide to novel writing, rewriting, & revision, will follow in early 2022 from Soho Press.
