He recorded a series of novelty songs including the 1958 hit rock and roll comedy single "The Purple People Eater" [1] and under the name Ben Colder the country hit "Almost Persuaded No. 2".
Sheb Wooley was an American character actor in many Westerns and a figure in country-western music. He had a hit song "The Purple People Eater" and voiced the Wilhelm Scream in many films and TV shows.
