Actress. She was the daughter of Hollywood film director Edwin Carewe (original name Jay Fox). Growing up, she went by Violet Carewe. It was not until 1926 that she was given her stage name, Rita Carewe. Her first debut was in the silent film "Habit" in 1921, when she was twelve years old.

Edwin was first married in 1905 to Mary Jane Mason and had two daughters, Mary Jane and Violette Carewe, aka Rita Carewe, as she was known in the movie business, appeared in several of Edwin’s early films.
Carewe was married three times, twice to actress Mary Akin. By his first wife, Mary Jane Croft (married January 9, 1909 in Toronto, Ontario), [citation needed] he had two daughters, Violette (who became an actress, known as "Rita Carewe") and Mary Jane.
