Alassane Sy was born in Mauritania and relocated to Senegal in the mid-eighties. Sy moved to Paris and then later New York, where a career in modeling brought him to the attention of director Andrew Dosunmu who cast Sy in the lead role for his feature film Restless City. This is where Sy’s acting career began.
