Lavinia was born on October 21, 1976, in Lugoj and was coached by Octavian Belu at CSS Cetate Deva. After retiring from competitive gymnastics in 1996, she attended university and worked as a coach for beginning gymnasts in her old gym in Deva. In 1999, Lavinia married a policeman.
