Chan Ah Kow (陈亚九, 1912 – 10 March 1996) was a Singaporean swimming coach.
This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Dr. Chan Ah Kow, winner of the Coach of the Year award in 1969, 1970 and 1971. He was President of the Singapore Lawn Tennis Association (1965-1970). His daughter, Miss Patricia Chan Li-Yin, was a national swimming champion who won the Sportswoman of the Year five times.

Another daughter of his, Victoria Lye-hua Chan-Palay, went on to prominence as a neuroscientist in the United States and Switzerland. Two other sons Alex Chan Meng Wah and Bernard Chan Cheng Wah were also swimmers, the latter representing Singapore at the 1966 Asian Games.
For the latter, all eyes were on Singapore’s star athletes, and in particular swimming sensation Pat Chan. Chan’s haul of 33 gold medals from the previous four SEAP Games – an average of eight golds per event – meant that much of the nation’s hopes would rest on her young shoulders.
