St Mary’s College is a constituent college of Durham University. It is located mainly on Elvet Hill to the South of the city centre, becoming the first Durham’s “hill colleges”.
Originally founded in the 19th century, St Mary's retains the traditions of a long-established College in supporting and nurturing academic excellence, whilst also encouraging students to take advantage of the many opportunities available to participate in music, art, drama, sport and community projects.
The Mary’s community is truly special, and I could not be more excited to welcome you all here for the start of your University journey. My top priority is representing the College’s undergraduate student body; this includes overseeing finances, welfare, events, sports & societies and so much more!

St Mary’s was established in 1899 and is the third oldest college at Durham. It was originally an all women’s college, but it has now been mixed since 2005 and is home to around 800 undergraduates and 150 postgraduates.
Mary’s was established as Durham’s third college in 1899, meaning that it is a traditionally-minded college, with regular formal dinners and events. Furthermore, it is undoubtedly one of the most aesthetically pleasing colleges in the whole of Durham.
