Carlo Gambino (Italian: [ˈkarlo ɡamˈbiːno]; August 24, 1902 – October 15, 1976) was a Sicilian-born American crime boss who was the leader and namesake of the Gambino crime family of New York City.
Carlo Gambino was the head of one of the Five Families of organized crime—the Bonanno, Colombo, Genovese, Lucchese, and Gambino crime families—in New York City from 1957 to 1976, with major interests in Brooklyn, and reputedly the “boss of bosses” of the U.S. national crime syndicate.
