Sid Gerue, a saloon keeper in the rough Alaskan goldrush town of Kilisnoo, loses his daughter, called "Little Pal," to the brutal "Black Brand" in a game of dice. In the fight that follows, Sid is killed, and Little Pal seeks refuge with John Grandon, an Easterner who has come to Alaska to mine his deceased brother's claim.
