In this comedy, a milque-toast bookkeeper buckles under his overbearing girl friend's constant nagging and begins investing his money so he won't have to wait for a raise from his boss. His girl friend pushes him, because she wants to marry him and he refuses to until he has enough money.
Here, he's the boss of Stuart Erwin, a passive sort of fellow whose allergies make him 4-F after being drafted. Erwin, having previously given his notice, asks for his job back, but has to settle for a lower paying position where even the previous employee's salary is cut by the Scrooge like Hall.
