The "Angel of Shavano" is a snow feature that resembles an angel - 1 and 2. It's located in the center of Shavano's southeast slopes and frequently used as a spring snow climb. In some years, you may find continuous snow from the angel to the summit.
The Angel of Shavano Campground is ideally suited for tent camping. The campsites are wooded with aspen and spruce trees along the north fork of the south Arkansas River. The Angel of Shavano Trailhead for the Colorado Trail #1776 is across the road from the campground.

The Angel of Shavano route is 7.9 miles roundtrip with 4,430 feet of elevation gain. From the trailhead, follow the Colorado Trail north for 5-10 minutes until the intersection with the Angel of Shavano Trail. There is a sign here indicating the way to Shavano and Tabeguache.

Apr 29, 2024 · Angel of Shavano is an east/southeast facing snow line on a 14er located in Central Colorado. When fully “in”, the line provides continuous snow from the top of the mountain all the way down to 11,200ft or so. The Angel of Shavano gets its name from a view of the snow line in the distance, when melted out, that resembles an angel.
