Shane is a very conventional Western with an old-school approach to filmmaking and drenched in sentimentality. But George Stevens' direction does elevate the film somewhat with beautiful vistas of Wyoming and an emphasis on the myth of the lone gunslinger. Plus, the ending is iconic.
