The Bachelor Father is a 1931 American pre-Code MGM comedy drama film directed by Robert Z. Leonard and starring Marion Davies and featuring Ralph Forbes, C. Aubrey Smith, Ray Milland and Guinn "Big Boy" Williams.
The Bachelor Father went into production shortly after famed photographer Cecil Beaton had named Davies one of the six most beautiful women in Hollywood, along with Greta Garbo, Dolores Del Rio, Norma Shearer, Alice White and Lillian Gish.

Overview. Lonely in his English country estate, Sir Basil decides to gather his grown (albeit illegitimate) children around him in his declining years. He uses a ledger which keeps track of the payments he has been making to ex-lovers to locate 2 of them, and a third is found by a lawyer in New York, her mother was too proud to accept any money.

Adapted from a 1928 play by Edward Childs Carpenter, the picture concerns an old bachelor (played by C. Aubrey) who wants to get to know the three children he fathered but never was a father too, by collecting his "stray offspring" to accompany him in his dotage on his English country estate.
