Top Gear: Apocalypse was the name of the second direct-to-video Top Gear special, and the fourth release to feature exclusive scenarios not recorded for the series. It starred Richard Hammond and James May, with main presenter Jeremy Clarkson unavailable due to the concurrent production of his penultimate home video, The Italian Job.
The criteria, as stated by Richard and James, answered the question, "How best to survive a Nuclear Apocalypse?" These include surviving the Doomsday MOT test, how motor racing can still exist, how to drive to work in a world blackened by nuclear fallout, and what cars would each presenter drive using the final barrel of oil in the world. Some of these cars include the classic Mini, Bowler Nemesis, Porsche 911 GT3, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Pontiac GTO and Ferrari F40.
Despite never airing in its native UK, the special was broadcast in the United States on BBC America on the 19th of November, 2012.
