Angélique et le Sultan (1968) A new film adaptation of the first novel was directed by Ariel Zeitoun in 2013. It starred Nora Arnezeder as Angélique and Gérard Lanvin as Joffrey de Peyrac.
This film finds Angélique in a North African Muslim kingdom where she is now part of the Sultan's harem. The first part of the film consist of her angrily refusing to be bedded as well as their trying to literally beat some sense into her.
"Angélique and the Sultan" continues the saga of the one-time favourite of Louis XIV, now searching on the more barbarous of the Mediterranean coasts for her husband Joffrey de Peyrac. From Marseilles to Candia, Malta, Algiers, a Moroccan seraglio - her adventures are almost predictable.
