One could be forgiven for approaching the recently rediscovered original version of Doris Wishman’s avant-junk masterpiece A Night to Dismember with apprehension. The 70-minute cut that had circulated for years was, in this writer’s humble, straight-faced assessment, completely perfect.

A Night to Dismember stretches a shoestring budget to create a head wound woozy horror experience. Wishman recycles locations, uses inventive no budget camerawork to imply things like decapitations and burning homes, and douses harsh lit suburban squalor with a gutter sludge electronic score.
