After mixups involving uniforms, Lieut. Wilbur Harkness, pilot son of an Army Air Force general officer, is found in a Russian outfit and is carted away as a spy. Parker, who has replaced his Soviet togs with the nearest uniform--Wilbur's--is forced to impersonate Wilbur and is given the rank of Army captain.
McHale's Navy (1964) earned an estimated $2,250,000 in North American rentals. McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force took in $1,500,000. In 1997, a sequel was released, starring Tom Arnold as McHale's US Naval Academy graduate son, which showed the PT-73 and its crew operating in a modern, post-World War II setting in the Caribbean.
