Based on the true story of Saburo Sakai, naval aviator and ace pilot in the Pacific War. As he witnesses his comrades die left and right, Sakai must struggle with the passions of his youthful subjects as well as face the ultimate battle for survival over Guadalcanal.
The film covers the operations of the Zero unit, early successes over P-39s over Port Moresby, and then being on the receiving end of American bombing missions at Lae and Rabaul by American B-26s and P-39s.
