The First Texan is a 1956 American CinemaScope and Technicolor western film directed by Byron Haskin and starring Joel McCrea, Felicia Farr and Jeff Morrow. Produced by Walter Mirisch, it was shot in CinemaScope and distributed by Allied Artists. It is set during the Texas Revolution of the 1830s.
With Joel McCrea, Felicia Farr, Jeff Morrow, Wallace Ford. Eastern lawyer Sam Houston moves to Texas. At the request of President Jackson, he leads the Texan independence movement and wins the decisive battle against the Mexican army to gain Texas independence.
After becoming the Texas Army's commander-in-chief, Sam learns that the troops posted at the Alamo mission are out-numbered by Santa Ana's forces. At the convention, Sam orders the delegates to draw up a constitution while he organizes an army in Gonzales.
