Ben Matthews (born 21 July 1963) is the guitarist and keyboard player with the hard rock band Thunder. He is also an experienced studio engineer and mixer; he worked with progressive rock act Mostly Autumn as studio engineer on their 2005 album Storms Over Still Water .
Based in Staffordshire, Ben currently plays as one of the UK's only 5 stringed 'cellists as a solo artist and with several ensembles including Helian & the Joe Danks trio. He has played classically with various orchestras including the LSO, and BBC Philharmonic.

The 50-year-old was diagnosed in July after malignant cells were discovered during tonsil surgery. He’d been replaced by Pete Shoulder of The Union for the band’s appearance at the Calling festival.

The 50-year-old was replaced by The Union’s Pete Shoulder for their Calling festival appearance at the end of June while he recovered from tonsil surgery.
