Gary "Chicken" Hirsh (March 9, 1940 – August 17, 2021) was an American drummer, best known for his work with the rock group Country Joe and the Fish. Hirsh was born in Chicago, Illinois. In December 1966, he replaced John Francis Gunning, but left the band in 1969.

He was an American drummer best know for his work with the group called Country Joe and the Fish. He started his career with them in 1966. The band was formed in the San Francisco area in 1965. He remained with them until 1969.
John-Francis Gunning was also ousted from the band before the sessions, replaced by Gary “Chicken” Hirsh. The band, having now evolved into their “classic” lineup, toured across the country to support the album, which was a Top 40 success in the U.S..
