Jeffrey James Logan (born May 7, 1978), better known by his stage name Jel, is an Oakland Bay Area-based, Arlington Heights, Illinois native underground hip hop producer and rapper.
Jel is primarily a producer and he is known for his use of the E-Mu Systems SP-1200 and Akai MPC2000XL samplers (among others) to create drum beats with little or no sequencing playing the drums live via the sampler pads.
A founding contributor to the Anticon collective and record label, Jel's work as a producer and remixer has helped hip-hop look to the future. The Oakland-based DJ's unconventional melding of warped sonics with head-nodding beats inspired rhymers like Odd Nosdam, Sage Francis, and Sole to push themselves into new lyrical territory.
