Avishai Cohen ( Hebrew: אבישי כהן; born April 20, 1970) is an Israeli jazz double bassist, composer, singer, and arranger. Early life. Avishai was born in Kabri, a kibbutz in northern Israel. [1] . He has Sephardic, Greek-Jewish and Polish-Jewish ancestry. [2] .
Avishai Cohen, born in Kabri, Israel on April 20th, 1970, has over the course of his career helped bring the bass into the spotlight and has pushed the boundaries of jazz. His work has earned him international awards and global recognition, including the prestigious Miles Davis Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2023.
For most of its length the Israeli trumpeter painstakingly leads the way, closely shadowed by his long-time comrades — pianist Yonathan Avishai, bassist Barak Mori and drummer Ziv Ravitz — who share an intuitive understanding, hyper alert to the music’s subtly-changing emphases.
