Brigadier Arthur Seaforth Blackburn, VC, CMG, CBE, ED, JP (25 November 1892 – 24 November 1960) was an Australian soldier, lawyer, politician, and recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for valour in battle that could be awarded to a member of the Australian armed forces at the time.
Arthur Blackburn, a lawyer, became the first South Australian to receive the Victoria Cross. At the 1915 landing on Gallipoli, it is believed that he and another man penetrated further inland than anyone else. At Pozières, France, Blackburn led an attack that captured nearly 400 metres of trench.
Arthur Seaforth Blackburn (1892-1960), soldier and lawyer, was born on 25 November 1892 at Woodville, South Australia, youngest child of Rev. Thomas Blackburn and his second wife Margaret Harriette Stewart, née Browne.

Arthur Blackburn VC was arguably Australia’s most notable ‘citizen soldier’ serving his nation with distinction in two World Wars and in public life. Blackburn enlisted in the 10th Battalion AIF as a Private soldier shortly after the outbreak of War in August 1914.
