Imperial Noble Consort Chunhui. Imperial Noble Consort ( Chinese: 皇貴妃, Vietnamese: hoàng quý phi, Korean : 황귀비) was the title of women who ranked second to the Empress in the imperial harem of China during most of the period spanning from 1457 to 1915.
Imperial Noble Consort Chunque (simplified Chinese: 纯悫皇贵妃; traditional Chinese: 純愨皇貴妃; pinyin: Chúnquè huángguìfēi; December 1689 or January 1690 – 27 January 1785), from the Han Chinese Geng clan, was a consort of Yongzheng Emperor.
In the portrait, Chunhui is wearing an official Manchu court robe for winter called chao fu and a first-rank imperial consort’s winter hat called chao guan. The chao guan is heavily adorned with gold, precious stones and pearls, resembling a crown.
Chunhui was a favoured consort of the Qianlong Emperor, who presided over Imperial China at the zenith of its power, at a time when a free interchange of science and art with the West had resulted in extraordinary artistic developments.
After her death later that year, she was posthumously honoured as Imperial Noble Consort Chunhui, and interred in the Yuling Mausoleum for concubines of the Qing emperors. Other than the current painting, there are two recorded depictions of her.
