David Kazhdan (Hebrew: דוד קשדן), born Dmitry Aleksandrovich Kazhdan (Russian: Дми́трий Александро́вич Кажда́н), is a Soviet and Israeli mathematician known for work in representation theory. Kazhdan is a 1990 MacArthur Fellow.
This was a great experience. It opened my eyes ― and my heart ― to the beauty of mathematics, the field that ties together ostensibly unrelated concepts. At that time, I often shopped for mathematical texts in used bookstores and frequently met Naum Vilenkin on my wanderings.

David Kazhdan is a mathematician known for his contributions to geometry, number theory, and mathematical physics. Kazhdan is concerned with the different ways symmetry occurs in nature and mathematics and his research focuses on algebraic aspects of analysis and geometric, representation theory.
