May 28, 2024 · The Bible Story of Joseph, from the Book of Genesis, is one of heroic redemption and forgiveness. Joseph was the most loved son of his father, Israel, given the famous robe of many colors. When Joseph reported having dreams of his brothers, and even the stars and moon, bowing before him, their jealousy of Joseph grew into action.
Birth and family. Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel, lived in the land of Canaan with ten half-brothers, one full brother, and at least one half-sister. He was Rachel's firstborn and Jacob's eleventh son. Of all the sons, Joseph was preferred by his father, who gave him a "long coat of many colors ".

Joseph was one of the twelve tribes of Israel, a son of Jacob and his wife Rachel. Known as “the righteous one,” he was favored by his father (who gave him a special colored coat) and sold by his brothers to Egypt, where he ultimately became ruler of the land, second only to King Pharaoh.

Jul 18, 2008 · Joseph had a lot of things going his way in life at first. He was handsome. He was the first son born to Jacob through Rachel, and therefore, he was his father’s favorite son. He had great dreams that made him feel good about himself. But then one day his entire life changed.
So, if we follow the Septuagint, Galatians 3:17, and Josephus we have what is known as a ‘short’ sojourn of 215 years. Following the Masoretic text and the Dead Sea Scrolls give us a ‘long’sojourn of 430 years. In order to choose between these two approaches, we first need to look at Joseph’s activities in Egypt.
1. Joseph was the first son of Rachel, Jacob’s favorite wife. While in Paddan-aram, Jacob saw and loved Rachel, and arranged to work seven years for her ( Gen 29:17, 18 ). Laban, her father, gave Leah, his oldest daughter, to Jacob, insisting that custom demanded that the oldest daughter be married first.

May 6, 2020 · God chose Joseph to be the earthly father of Jesus. The Bible tells us in the Gospel of Matthew, that Joseph was a righteous man. His actions toward Mary, his fiance, revealed that he was a kind and sensitive man. When Mary told Joseph she was pregnant, he had every right to feel disgraced.
