Nathan Straus Jr. (May 27, 1889 – September 13, 1961) was an American journalist and politician from New York.
Nathan Straus was born to a German Jewish family in Otterberg in the former Palatinate, then ruled by the Kingdom of Bavaria (now part of present-day Germany), the third child of Lazarus Straus (1809–1898) and his second wife, Sara (1823–1876).

Apr 9, 2022 · Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father, wrote to his friend, Nathan Straus Jr. (nicknamed “Charley”), the son of the founder of Macy’s department stores. The two men had become good friends 30 years earlier, while Frank was in college in Heidelberg.
At that time Nathan was giving talks all over Europe in an effort to interest other municipalities in the health benefits of this pro-cess. When they left for Europe their son Charles Webster Straus, later known as Nathan Straus, Jr., was enrolled in Princeton Uni-versity in NJ.
In 2007, a file of letters between University of Heidelberg roommates and lifelong friends, Otto Frank and Nathan Straus Jr., was found in the archives of YIVO: Institute for Jewish Research in NYC.
