Dumas Malone (DEW-mah; January 10, 1892 – December 27, 1986) was an American historian, minister, and biographer. A professor by occupation, Malone spent the majority of his career teaching at the University of Virginia (UVA), where he served as the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor of History.

Jefferson’s eventful years as United States Minister to France, and as Secretary of State during the first presidential term of George Washington, are well recounted in Dumas Malone’s Jefferson and the Rights of Man, the second volume of Malone’s six-volume biography Jefferson and His Time.
Dumas Malone, 1892–1986, spent thirty-eight years researching and writing Jefferson and His Time. In 1975 he received the Pulitzer Prize in history for the first five volumes.
