Jun 21, 2024 · SHIFEN & JIUFEN AT A GLANCE. Shifen and Jiufen are both small towns in New Taipei City, about an hour east of Taipei. Shifen is in Pingxi District while Jiufen is in Ruifang District. As far as tourism is concerned, Shifen is known primarily for two things – Shifen Old Street and Shifen Waterfalls.
Dec 4, 2023 · Shifen Old Street (十分老街) is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Taiwan. Every day of the year, foreign tourists flock to this tiny village on the Pingxi Railway Line to write their wishes on sky lanterns and release them to the sky from the train tracks.
Located in the Pingxi area (平溪), Shifen Old Streets is a collection of lanes and alleys in and around the Shifen railway station area. Originally built for transporting coal during the Japanese era, the station and track runs straight through the village.
