Jun 17, 2020 · A Better Tomorrow 1- More drama than action, the action scenes are doled out sparsely but effectively. I'd say it is 2/3 drama, 1/3 action. This is a crime drama with a handful of excellent action scenes peppered throughout a solid story.
Jul 5, 2021 · I watched John Woo's "A Better Tomorrow" (1985) Edit: typo, supposed to say 1986. What better way to spend an American holiday.... My wife was in the mood for a Hong Kong style action film, so we started The Corruptor on Tubi. About 45 minutes in, we lost interest and decided we needed some proper Hong Kong action.
May 7, 2019 · On Amazon, someone mentions that even though Anchor Bay originally released a DVD version with the bad audio, they later apologized and recalled the bad version, then re-released the DVD with the "good" original Cantonese mono track. Unfortunately, I think this may only apply to the DVD version and not the Blu-Ray version (but I'm not 100% sure).

Sep 7, 2022 · The other two are just DVD upscales. on blu ray. Please do not buy any of them Blu-Rays. The 3 disc DVD set from Taiwan is still in print and available via eBay. They feature the original Mono audio (No added Sound and Gun fx) unlike the Blu Ray (s). Get the DVDs or wait for a proper BD WITH the original audio.
Apr 10, 2023 · John Cho. Man, what an actor. Started here with Better Luck Tomorrow and then honestly, besides being the goofy funny stoner comedy, Harold & Kumar was clutch. Good representation of Asians leading a film with characters who broke away from some of stereotypes Hollywood had imposed on Asian males.

I usually resort to just buying the DVD/Blu-ray for rare and hard to find films. A Better Tomorrow is on YouTube. Just try YouTube. You’d be surprised how many movies are actually scattered around. I literally just typed in the killers John Woo and found it. I think Amazon (Prime Video) might have his films.
A Better Tomorrow saved careers, changed film, redefined action movies, and started an Eastern Renaissance that can still be felt today. And until recently, you couldn't watch it anywhere digitally. DVD copies go for $30. And crappy blu-ray copies go for $30 to $100 depending on the re-mastering.

When Ben (or Asian Guy #1, as he would be called in other movies from that time) starts selling crib sheets; pulling heists like the one where his crew steals, what must appear to many of you to be, comically large computers; and then dealing coke, it seems that he’s broken free of the cycle, but he hasn’t.
