  1. High Plains Drifter is Western star Clint Eastwood’s first attempt at directing one of his own westerns. Given that he was mentored by the likes of Don Siegel and my personal favourite director Sergio Leone it’s no wonder that Eastwood went on to make hits like The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven.

  2. The High Plains Drifter is NOT some kind of advice to young men to understand how to win over women or to not get murdered. His deeds cannot and should not be replicated. He's no more a heroic model than Anton Chigurh was in No Country For Old Men. No one should want to be the High Plans Drifter.

  3. High plains drifter is a psychological horror western. I’ve been an Eastwood fan for a very long time, but only just got around to watching this. I’ve always heard it’s an early example of a revisionist western, with really dark cynicism, but I never knew that the vibes are so unsettling and allegorical. It feels like the town of largo is ...

  4. Nov 7, 2016 · The (arguably) 2 rape scenes in the movie are both committed by Eastwood and yet the townsfolk are the villains as none of them say a word. The innkeeper doesn't say a word when Eastwood drags his wife to his own bed. They are all cowards and just as they couldn't save the Marshall, they can't save themselves.

  6. Jan 10, 2024 · High Plains Drifter, Unforgiven, Outlaw Josey Wales, Two Mules for Sister Sarah, Pale Rider, the entire Man with No Name trilogy…serious it’s crazy how many great films he did that were all westerns. I watched it for the first time this past year and immediately loved it. Just a great, solid movie with an awesome twist!

  7. Jan 7, 2024 · The high plains drifter trots into town on a tired and thin looking horse. The people of the frontier town of "Southern Cross" are wary at first, and the feeling of narrow eyes watching from hidden places is constant. But money is money and after a night at a drafty hotel new information changes things.

  8. High Plains Drifter is literally the complete opposite, highlighted by us never finding out who he is, where he came from, and even being teased as the dead Marshal. The two are almost different genres, with Drifter almost being a parody of the usual tropes and town dynamics, even seguing into mysticism.

  9. Feb 10, 2024 · I just watched High Plains Drifter, and it might be one of my new favorites. Discussion. It's such a great story, the background of the drifter, the tale of revenge, the secrets. It's amazing and I'm suprised I never gave it a watch before. Especially since it has one of the kings of westerns Clint Eastwood starring as the drifter.

  10. Aug 23, 2020 · TheGoat786. Clint asked John Wayne if he wanted to be in a Western together. Wayne wrote back saying this movie is terrible because of the violence and it’s revisionist portrayal of westerns. Too bad, this movie is better than 95 percent of John Wayne’s movies.
