Oundle School is a public school (English fee-charging boarding and day school) for pupils 11–18 situated in the market town of Oundle in Northamptonshire, England. The school has been governed by the Worshipful Company of Grocers of the City of London since its foundation by Sir William Laxton in 1556.
We are a selective school but academic achievement is just one strand of an Oundle education. We place firm emphasis on developing in our pupils the skills, attitudes and habits of mind that will sustain them throughout a long life, enabling them to flourish both at school and beyond.
Our story. Oundle traces its history back to 1556, when Sir William Laxton, Lord Mayor of London and Master of the Worshipful Company of Grocers endowed a ‘Free Grammar School’ in Oundle, where he had been educated at the original Gild School founded in 1506.
The first step of the Oundle admissions journey is to consider the entry point for your child. Pupils normally join Oundle at either 11+, 13+ or 16+ as a day or a boarding pupil. Occasionally entry is possible into other year groups, including boarding places at 12+ and 14+.
Our fees include all boarding and laundry charges (if applicable), tuition, games, Health Centre access, Sports Centre access throughout the year including School holidays, library, lectures and some entertainment (not theatre).
Oundle is fully co-educational ever since its foundation with a constant 60:40 ratio of boys to girls; the average class size is eighteen for GCSEs and twelve for A-Levels. Oundle attracts pupils from over 120 schools across the UK and welcomes pupils from over 30 different countries.
