  1. Bellingen ( / ˈbɛlɪndʒən / BEL-in-jen) is a small town in the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is located on Waterfall Way on the Bellinger River, approximately halfway between the major Australian cities of Sydney and Brisbane.

    • Take a dip at the sublime Promised Land. We had to start with the Promised Land because it’s such an idyllic spot and should be top of your list of things to do in Bellingen.
    • Head through the rainforest to a remote beach paradise. We initially visited the Bongil Bongil National Park to look for koalas, as it has one of the biggest wild koala populations in all of NSW.
    • Go wine tasting with a view. Most people visit the award winning Raleigh Winery for its fabulous restaurant with a terrace overlooking the vines and river.
    • Watch the nightly Flying fox spectacle. Bats often get a bad rap but personally I love them, and even if they creep you out you can’t fail to be amazed by the sight of over 20,000 of them flying overhead!

    • Evermoore Retreat & Castle. Although Evermoore Retreat & Castle is technically accommodation, I must say this is one of the most incredible places you must put on your list to see in Bellingen.
    • Swim in the Bellingen River and bring a picnic. Bellingen is so beautiful, we recommend walking over to the Lavender Bridge to spend a lazy afternoon swimming in the river which is crystal clear.
    • Check out Hammond & Wheatley Emporium. Wander down Hyde Street, the main street in the town of Bellingen and pop into the legendary Hammond & Wheatley Emporium store.
    • Cargo Lane. We also recommend heading over to the Old Butter Factory to our favourite shop called Cargo Lane. We absolutely love this shop which is full of Antique Asian furniture.
