May 7, 2023 · (A historical marker located in French Camp in San Joaquin County, California.) Here was the terminus of the Oregon-California Trail used by the French-Canadian trappers employed by the Hudson’s Bay Company from about 1832 to 1845.
French Camp is a sizable campground located along beautiful Rock Creek, between the towns of Mammoth Lakes and Bishop. It is the first of many campgrounds along Rock Creek Road, at the end of which lies Rock Creek Lake and hiking trails leading to additional alpine lakes and impressive high peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
